Italian Road Trip is Waiting

Our adventure began in Ostrava, where we eagerly set off on a thrilling road trip to Italy. With Chiyoko in the backseat, our furry co-pilot, we were ready for an unforgettable journey. Packed in our trusty Mazda 3, complete with a rooftop tent, we embarked on a journey filled with breathtaking landscapes and unforgettable experiences.

Day 1: Northern Charms and Wild Nights

After a long drive of 745km lasting 8 hours, we found ourselves in Northern Italy, where we embraced the wilderness and camped under the stars. Chiyoko couldn’t be happier with the wild surroundings with majestic mountains and a delightful stream gently flowing nearby, Chiyoko couldn’t resist dipping her paws in the cool water.

Day 2: The San Marino Surprise

Our road led us south, with a plan to visit the captivating Castel del Monte. But, as it often happens with adventures, we couldn’t resist the charm of San Marino, and so we made a delightful detour. (Chiyoko: “I knew we’d have a ‘pawsome’ time in San Marino!”)

Day 3: Castel del Monte

Our visit to Castel del Monte left us in awe of its intriguing history and unique octagonal design. Chiyoko enjoyed roaming the castle grounds, leaving paw prints in the ancient sandstone.

Day 4-5-6: Puglia’s Enchanting Towns

Moving along the picturesque coastline, explored charming towns like Polignano a Mare, Locorotondo, and Gallipoli. Each town had its unique magic, and Chiyoko couldn’t get enough of the enchanting sea breeze. We decided to slow down and book accommodation through airbnb, so we spent 3 nights in a beautiful villa in the south of Italy.

Day 7: The Fairytale of Alberobello

In the heart of Puglia, Alberobello’s trulli houses welcomed us with their whimsical charm. Chiyoko couldn’t resist posing for photos amidst the cone-shaped rooftops, adding her touch of cuteness to the fairytale scenery.

Day 8: Matera’s Timeless Wonder

Matera, a stunning city in Basilicata Italy, is rich with history, cave hotels and tasty Italian food. Its the oldest inhabited prehistoric city in Italy. It is a UNESCO World Heritage City with a complex of cave.

Matera’s ancient alleys mesmerized us, and Chiyoko couldn’t agree more. She happily explored the stone streets, making friends along the way. Day 9: Amalfi Coast Adventures

The Amalfi Coast beckoned us with its breathtaking beauty. We stayed in the lovely town of Bomerano, ready to conquer the Path of the Gods the next day.

Day 10: The Path of the Gods

A stunning hike with Chiyoko leading the way, we soaked in the heavenly views along the coastal cliffs. The Path of Gods is one of the most popular hike in Italy with breathtaking views of the Amalfi coast.

Day 11: Saturnia’s Warm Embrace

Before heading back, we indulged in the warmth of Saturnia’s thermal springs, rejuvenating our souls for the journey home.

Ahh, this warm water is ‘paw-fect’ for relaxing! But not for me, I prefer a cold stream.

Day 12: The Road Back Home

From Saturnia, we headed straight back to Ostrava, a 15-hour journey that we managed with ease, thanks to having two drivers and only taking short breaks to stretch Chiyoko’s paws and our legs.

Italian Roadtrip – 12 Days on the way

With Chiyoko as our faithful co-pilot, we traversed a total of 4,389 km, spending approximately 50 hours on the road. Together, we dined on delectable Italian dishes and sipped on delightful wines, making each moment a taste of Italy’s rich culture.
