Welcome, dear readers, to another exciting chapter in our journey with our loyal companion, Chiyoko, the adventurous Akita Inu. Today, we invite you to join us as we venture into the picturesque city of Lucerne, nestled gracefully amidst the breathtaking Swiss Alps and the glistening waters of Lake Lucerne. This enchanting city is a gem that will capture your heart from the very moment you set foot on its cobblestone streets.
Discovering Lucerne’s Timeless Treasures
Our exploration of Lucerne began at the iconic Lion Monument, or Löwendenkmal, a majestic sculpture honoring the brave Swiss Guards who sacrificed their lives during the French Revolution. Dogs were not allowed to go directly to the monument and so Chiyoko only viewed it from afar. The monument’s striking presence and touching history left a profound impact on us as we paid our respects to the fallen heroes.
Walls, Towers, and Parks – A Journey Back in Time
The ancient Museggmauer city walls welcomed us next, boasting nine magnificent towers that stood witness to centuries of history. As we strolled along the park surrounding the walls, we noticed the unusual inhabitants. The park surrounding the walls is not just for humans; it’s a playground for bisons too! Chiyoko couldn’t help but make a speedy retreat from her new furry friends.
Views of Lucerne from the Towers
Climbing the Schirmer, Zytturm, Wachturm, or Mannliturm towers rewarded you with breathtaking panoramas of Lucerne’s cityscape. The best part? Entry is entirely free, making this experience an absolute must for every visitor seeking captivating views of the surroundings.

Journey Through Lucerne’s Architectural Marvels
Our journey through Lucerne’s history continued as we crossed the historic Spreuerbrücke, adorned with its iconic paintings and sculptures. The nearby Jesuitenkirche revealed the city’s rich religious heritage and captivating architectural finesse.
Stepping Into the Past of Lucerne – Kapellbrücke
Of course, we couldn’t miss the splendid Kapellbrücke, one of Europe’s oldest wooden covered bridges, renowned for its enchanting beauty. Its iconic presence across the Reuss River gracefully connects the Old Town with modern Lucerne.

Wandering the Timeless Old Town
One cannot truly experience Lucerne without leisurely wandering through its charming Old Town. Every corner seemed to hold a secret from the past, revealing fascinating stories through its beautifully preserved buildings and vibrant ambiance.
Tranquility by the Lucerne Lake
As we approached the tranquil Lake Lucerne, we found ourselves captivated by its shimmering waters, creating a perfect backdrop for a leisurely stroll or a serene boat ride.
Beyond Lucerne – Hidden Gems Await
Although our time in Lucerne was filled with captivating sights and moments, we can’t help but mention the hidden gems that await just beyond the city’s borders.
Pilatus – Embrace the Dragon’s Path
A visit to the majestic Pilatus mountain promises an unforgettable experience. Ascend to its summit on the world’s steepest cogwheel railway, take a scenic cable car ride, or hike your way up. Standing tall at 2,128 meters (6,982 feet), Pilatus offers breathtaking views of Lucerne and its sparkling lakeside. Discover the myth of the Dragon of Pilatus as you journey along the legendary Dragon’s Path.
